The project calls for the conversion of an existing late 19th century building into the client’s headquarters and for additional office space.
The strategy consists in respecting the corner presence of the existing structure by restoring it back to its original state while framing it with a new contemporary background building. This new building aims to protect the integrity of this urban corner and at the same time establish around it the seed of a new urban scale and order. We used the existing courtyard adjoining the old building to our advantage by making it the focal point that mediates between both buildings. A matter of urban symbiosis.
