Foyo residence upstate
Narrowsburg, New York
2000-2004
The house is located in a thick forest. There is an old abandoned logging path meandering through it. The house sits on it. In the summer, the land is densely covered with ferns. They form an acoustic carpet. The atmosphere of the place is dominated by its silence; a deep silence that fills it with peace.
The path dissects the house in two, as it becomes the interior circulation gallery. It leads you into the house, it leads you out of the house and it distributes you to the different rooms inside the house. In doing so, the house becomes a bridge on the path. On one side of the circulation gallery, there is the living area. It is a loft-like glass and wood pavilion with a view of the hill across a small valley. On the other side of it, there are the sleeping rooms. They are small and intimate. They face the forest.
